KiDECALS--great labels for just about anything

Image
Okay so a little off topic, but I just got a few dozen KiDECALS to use on my son's gear for camp this summer, and they are amazing. They stick to anything.  Definitely will be ordering some more of these personalized name labels.  Here are a couple of pics.

Payette River Idaho

Cascade Kayak and Raft After a night in Boise we made our way up the road to visit our friends the Longs who run Cascade Raft and Kayak on the Payette River near Horseshoe Bend Idaho.  Tom and Debbie Long started Cascade about 20 yrs ago and run the premier whitewater rafting business on the river as well as a first class kayaking school.  One day we hope to visit their winter digs in Picon Chile. For the past several summers we've made our way here so that Ben could spend a week at Kayak Camp and I could enjoy myself camping along the banks of the Payette at the Long's private camp just north of Banks Idaho at a rapid called Otter Slide. This year because of our plans to do the Junior Olympics, we skipped kayak camp but instead chose to paddle a couple of runs on the Payette and explore some of the other sights in the area.  We had hoped to do the South Fork as well but high water kept us away. Three highlights of our trip Running the North Fork CA Barton Section...

Final Inside Touches

Image
Now that all the wood work is done,  I'm ready for the last stretch of inside work.   The current  countertop  is a kind of grey linen look that I find really unappealing.  Wayback last year I purchased some of the soon to be discontinued and no longer available Formica pattern Boomerang in the color Aqua.  I was able to pick up at 4x8 sheet of boomerang from home depot for only $35, and have had it stored in my basement ever since. Lately I've also become enamored of the idea of having a tin backsplash.  Looked at all the patterns but nothing was really grabbing me.  I was considering just going with plain when I happened upon this faux tin paneling that is actually a thermoplastic.  I like the wave pattern as it complements my water/agua theme.  I also like that it's a little contemporary. Hopefully this will get installed this weekend. Dinette Benches Once this project is finished it will be on to reupholstering the dine...

On our way to the last 10%

Here we go, lots accomplished and way over due for an update.  For our summer road trip (which I still must update...ugh) I got her ready to roll but not ready for a magazine cover.  After the trip, I just couldn't get into doing much...except to make her look passable for the TCT rally in Coloma in October.  But I finally got started working again during the Thanksgiving Holiday and have made some significant progress.  Pics to follow. Completed window coverings (pic at right Shellacked and rubbed out birch panels that were replaced, and rubbed out existing panels. Refinished cabinets and drawers including shining up hinges and pulls soak hinges in denatured alcohol and lacquer thinnner. 0000 steel wool and elbow grease. Rebuilt the ice box (no pics) which was really easy.  Getting it out of the cabinet was pretty easy.  Mine also fit right through the door.   unscrew latch and hinges and hinges clean take apart door and put doub...

The Long Long Trailer

Image
We took the Long Long Trailer on our road trip and watched it for the fist time today.  I have a feeling we'll pop it in to watch a few times more. Knock on wood, we don't encounter any of these mishaps on our journey.

Starting out at Last

June 29 Finally on the road.  After many many delays we finally hit the road today with a goal of getting to Idaho by July 1.  We chose to head north on I-5 and then east and north on Hwy 299 and up 395 to Oregon and on to Idaho rather than the faster route through Nevada. Here we are, all loaded up and ready to hit the road. Our ready to play inventory included: 1 slalom kayak 3 river running kayaks 2 bikes 1 dirt bike Aguadream was not perfect by any stretch yet, but definitely ready for the road-- safety wise.  Much of our delay was in getting the electrical done...just couldn't get the lights to work. Also just couldn't get the curbside front window situated so we patched it with a piece of wood hoping for little rain on our journey. An afternoon start out of Oakland meant hitting some rush hour traffic.  After Vacaville it was easy sailing, but our 50 mph speed limit meant that we'd only make it as far as Red Bluff on day 1.  We found a kind of s...
